Dentists Mary and John Ahearne qualified with degrees in Dental Surgery in 1983 from The London Hospital Dental School. They came to Moonfleet in 1989 taking over the practice from a retiring colleague. John gained his Masters degree in Periodontology from Guy's Hospital in 1991 and subsequently was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners in 1993.

Services
Many practices concentrate on the mechanical, cosmetic or functional aspects of dentistry (and these, of course, are vitally important) but we also believe that the dentistry we provide must take account of the whole of the patient's biological system. We combine conventional dentistry with complementary techniques.
We recognise that patients come to us with different needs and expectations and from different starting points. Some of you will never have had a dental filling, others will have had many and often they have been replaced once or twice. For some gum disease will be a problem. These further tests will help to determine which complementary therapies we may need to recommend in addition or even instead of any dentistry.
At Moonfleet we aim to minimise the exposure of the patient, staff and the dentist to mercury during removal and to this end we follow the protocol of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (SMART) see www.thesmartchoice.com. In addition, we do not use an air rotor which we find increases the aerosol effect and can cause microcracks in the tooth structure which can eventually weaken the tooth.
Patients with an urgent dental problem please ring the surgery on 01202 741622 as soon as possible. We reserve an emergency slot each morning at 12.40 for our own patients so please ring as early as possible and we will do our utmost to offer you an appointment that same day. Out of surgery opening hours please call us on 01202 741622 and listen to the message.

I cannot reccommend highly enough this dental practice and John Ahearne. The level of care, gentleness, and safety in removing my dental amalgams was exceptional. Mercury removal can be dangerous if it's not done correctly with all the right safety measures. The level of safety and expertise at this dental clinic is, as I said before, exceptional. John Ahearne is also just a wonderful person, and the surgery is beautifully calming.
The receptionists are lovely, all the staff there are incredibly helpful, friendly and professional. I have very sensitive teeth and gums and always struggle with the anaesthetic injections and pain even when Im anaesthatised, but at Moonfleet I genuinely didnt feel a thing, they used a special cream to numb my gums so I didnt even feel the needles go in, and the dental work was done with the gentleness like that of a mother to her newborn.
It was the most pain free dental experience I have ever had. When I needed help to get through my Mercury detox in the months that followed my appointment, John Ahearne was more than happy to speak to me on the phone, in the evenings, after his shift, absolutely for free, and send me all the information that I needed by post. Not only that, but he never made me feel rushed on the phone, I always felt that I was speaking to someone who truly has my best interests at heart, and that is rare these days.
It's no surprise to me that EVERY review for this practice has 5 stars. If only all medical staff and practices could be like Moonfleet and John Ahearne. If I ever need any serious dental work in the future, I will come back to Moonfleet even though it is an 8 hour round trip for me! I recently have been having jaw problems and displacement of teeth with my class 2 malocclusion, so I called Moonfleet to see if John Ahearne could advise me on what to do and reccommend a good maxillofacial surgeon and orthodontist.
I was given a free telephone appointment immediately, even though the last time they treated me was 5 years ago. Thank you Moonfleet for being the gold standard in dental care, long may you reign!
