We offer all aspects of NHS dentistry at both our sites in Winchester and are currently one of 97 practices chosen by the Department of Health to pilot a new NHS personalised careplan which we believe will improve the standard of care our patients receive.
Services

It is important that calculus is removed as it is full of bacterial toxins which cause inflammation of the gums. If left in situ, calculus will cause the gums to recede from the teeth leading to eventual tooth loss. Most of us at some point will need to have our teeth scaled. Scaling is the dental method used to help smooth the surface of the teeth so that bacteria are less able to adhere to the enamel surface.
Fluoride varnish is temporarily adhesive form of fluoride applied to the tooth surface by a dentist, dental hygienist or other health care professional as a type of topical fluoride therapy. Fluoride varnish is not permanent, but is designed to adhere to the tooth surface and keep fluoride in contact with the tooth for several hours.
This is a Preventative procedure where a plastic resin is placed on the chewing surface of molar teeth in patients who are susceptible to dental decay. It helps to prevent dental decay. Firstly the tooth is cleaned and dried and then etched with a diluted acid to provide a key to attach the resin. The tooth is then washed and dried before resin is flowed over its surface and set.

Used to be a good dental practice but they have now become masters at blaming COVID for a very poor service they are giving. Latest example. Just received a letter today re-arranging my appointment booked for early October to middle of November. The card blames 'unforeseen circumstances'. Yet it is only the middle of May now. How can a need to rearrange an appointment that is still 5 months away be 'unforeseen'. They are just now able to run an effective practice any longer, at least not for NHS patients. Shame as the dentists themselves are good.

Being new in Winchester I was advised to see Dr Hammond after a disastrous experience with BUPA Dentist further up the road. The staff at St James Dental Practice were professional, courteous and welcoming. Making me feel most welcome and at ease. Dr Hammond genyke, explained everything that he was doing and resolved my problem. A few weeks later I damaged a tooth that needs a crown. Once again Dr Hammond was amazing. I am so happy to be part of this dental practice and would highly recommend them to everyone.

I called loads of dentists in Winchester and Chandlers Ford for an emergency appointment, they all advised me to ring 111 as they were not taking new patients, 111 just advised me to find a local dentist, very unhelpful! Then I found these guys, they were the only ones who helped, they saw me at the earliest they could, and gave me a filling straight away at a good price and a with a friendly service. Thank you to Dr Forster and his team for seeing me today, I am finally pain free.

I broke a tooth & as my dentist was retiring I decided to use this company. It had good reviews. I required a crown & it was carried out by Martin Hammond, but sadly not very well. It hurt during & after the process of fitting & to me seemed a very rushed process. I lived with the discomfort for a while until going back to the dental practice. Dr Hammond was on maternity leave so I was seen by Claudia Peace who basically told me that the crown is wonderful & I should clean my teeth better!
The crown needed attention but she didn't want to admit it & again I have had to live with it. Now, & very much later than it should be, I am in need of a dentist to redo what these people didn't do correctly the first time. Very poor & unsympathetic service for quite a lot of money.

I've had my braces for about 2 years now, I have finally had them taken off today. I couldn't be happier with the results. My teeth had very large overbite and crowding on bottom. Over time the braces pulled back my teeth and are now lovely and straight. Everyone at the dental practice are lovely. Massive thank you to Eva Bryniarska for my straight teeth, who is an amazing orthodontist!
