Fillings and other dental treatments Cosmetically, few people like the look of a silver / mercury filling as it can darken the tooth and is noticeable when a patient smiles. During chewing, forces on the filling can lead to cracks appearing in the surrounding tooth due to the lack of support from the filling. White fillings are more aesthetically pleasing than the old amalgam fillings; our white "composite" material can be used to replace old fillings (an affordable way to really lift your smile) or for any new ones required. If the decay is not too serious, our clinicians will remove all the decay and restore the tooth with a white (tooth coloured) filling. Decay occurs when the enamel and dentine of a tooth become softened by acid attacks from bacteria, producing a cavity (hole). Onlays and Inlays are used to rebuild a tooth that has fractured or where the area of damage is too large for a filling. Root canal fillings are similar to an ordinary filling, due to the nerve and blood supply being infected the cleaning process involves the roots, which are also cleaned and then filled. Dental Examination / Assessment When you first arrive at the practice you will be greeted by Karen, our practice client liaison. There will be some forms to complete whilst you have a drink, and a tour of the practice provided to ensure you are totally comfortable with the surroundings. You will then be greeted by your clinician in the patient lounge, and transferred to the consultation area for a discussion of your dental health and desired outcomes.
